We hadn't intended on waking early, nor intended on venturing out, especially after Ray's long weekend of two games (one win, one loss). But when we woke early to find snow blanketing the rooftops, we jumped out of bed and decided to take a "walk" down by the lake. Well, the intense beauty of the day accented by the sun beckoned us onward. We decided to take the small train line up the lake to see what we could find.
Well, we never made it to the end of the train line. Instead we decided to get off on a random stop we had never visited before and begin walking "up". We hadn't packed any food or water, but what started as a little walk, turned into an amazing hike. Luckily, our babes had food thanks to God's design of us Mommies!!
The trail started out through a Japanese graveyard, which carried us high above the lake for some nice misty views...
Our babes enjoyed being pressed to our warm bodies and soon drifted to sleep...
The trail then turned in to an old road, no longer in use. The snow became deeper yet...
His sleeping lady...
My favorite part...
There is something magical about the way the snow sits so delicately on the branches...
Even though the trail is remote, the entire stream has signs of man's manipulation. Like I've mentioned about hikes in the past, you rarely will see a waterway that has not been dammed or cemented in, regardless of where you are. The theory behind this is it will prevent erosion... I'm not so sure...
On this hike, we discovered our new secret oasis: it is difficult to tell in this photo, but this particular stretch of the stream has a nice, large beach and is accessible from the trail. We await many a picnic here come spring...
We made it to the end of the trail - the trail just ended! There are a couple of Y's and switchbacks that we hope to try next time we head up there...
Heading back down. The hike up took us a couple hours, with knee-deep snow (at least for me). The hike down cut our time in half.
A truly magical wonderland...

Looks like a fun adventure. I can't believe little Sophie's chipmunk teeth in the last photo. So cute. I haven't seen the top ones yet. I'm glad your snow is nice and fluffy, unlike the slush we're seeing here.
Looks like a really fun day! I'm glad to see smiles on all your faces and to know your enjoying yourselves! The next time I see you can you teach me how to make some japanese food?
